While there are endless ways you can get outside and enjoy the natural beauty of the Georgia coast, the weather doesn’t always comply. The next time you see rain in the forecast in Pooler, Georgia, don’t let it ruin your plans. Instead, use the opportunity to visit one of the many indoor attractions in the greater Savannah area. Here are five ideas for some of the best rainy-day activities near Pooler, Georgia.
National Museum Of The Mighty Eighth Air Force
On a rainy weekend, make plans to visit the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force. The museum honors those who served as part of the Eighth Air Force, activated in Savannah during World War II. Exhibits explore America’s entrance into the war after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the bombing missions of air crews stationed in Europe, and the heroism of those who dutifully fought to protect liberty and freedom. A special highlight includes the B-17 Flying Fortress, undergoing restoration in one of the museum’s galleries.
With numerous artifacts, interactive displays, and educational presentations, you can spend hours inside the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force. You can also visit the Chapel of the Fallen Eagles, a replica Gothic English chapel with beautiful stained-glass windows inspired by Eighth Air Force veteran groups and families. On nicer days, you can tour the museum’s Memorial Garden, a space to reflect and honor the service of Eighth Air Force members. You can purchase tickets to the museum on its website. Group tours are also available for purchase.
